[ Personality ] :
On the surface, Anise comes off as a precocious, cheerful young girl with a playful demeanor. She goes out of her way to act cutely, oft times using childish speech patterns and infantile body language to garner praise and affection. Contrary to this presentation of herself, she can also be quite violent and occasionally cruel, threatening to kill those who wrong her or those under her protection (namely Ion). She tries to be very careful to hide this from Luke and Jade specifically though.
Both acts denote a very intuitive and clever individual. She can see the weakness in people and is not afraid of taking advantage to either further her own ends or simply for her own amusement, playing on Natalia's gullibility (of course Van can shoot lasers out of his eyebrows), Tear's shyness, and even pokes fun at Guy's gynophobia. She is also very blunt, telling it like it is, occasionally without tact. The lack of tact is on purpose though, usually because she’s worked up. This habit of trolling others yet still keeping the eye on the prize brought her closer to Jade than other members of the party and she often teams up with him much to the chagrin of everyone else (and sometimes to their mental detriment.) She never held against Jade his aloof attitude, befriending him regardless. She has a tendency to take people as they are instead of telling them they need to change. Even Dist, an extremely odd bird to say the least, she managed to worm her way into his regard because she didn’t call him strange or mistreat him like others in Daath, rightly pegging him as a lonely individual and seeing past his awkward, self-absorbed outer shell.
She's exceptionally sharp when it comes to money in particular, due to her family's financial troubles, and plans on marrying into money if at all possible, throwing herself at every well to do man she can sink her claws into, from Luke fon Fabre all the way up to Emperor Peony. She seems to have no shame, but really she's a confident girl who knows what she wants and how to get it, even going so far as to betray the party, including Fon Master Ion, whom she is sworn to protect and may or may not harbor romantic feelings for.
This is not to say she's treacherous; in fact, Anise is very loyal to her comrades and willing to do what it takes to fulfill a mission, but she's very attached to her family and should anything threaten them, she'll do anything to protect them, hence her betrayal. Her betrayal was not willful, but because Grand Maestro Mohs was holding her parents hostage in an effort to make Anise retrieve Ion for him and get him to read the Planet Score. Her parents are also her reason for being a gold digger; because her father is gullible and easily conned out of the family’s savings, Anise wants to save enough so they can be comfortable in retirement, though there is an element of want on her own part due to doing without for so long; she’s an excellent haggler and pinches pennies but she does dream of living in luxury someday.
All this paints Anise as a character of dichotomies. Cruel but kind, childish but clever, and with a big sister complex to boot that comes from having to take care of herself and often times her gullible parents as well. She’s pragmatic but with big dreams and if given half a chance she’ll have all of Vatheon wrapped around her little finger.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengeths
+ Shrewd and rarely forgets details
+ Apt at supporting fonic artes that help the whole party, though she’s formidable head on if she’s got Tokunaga active (her giant melee puppet)
+ Decent cook
+ Excellent money and business sense
Weaknesses
- Oftentimes gets carried away with her own imagination running wild
- Without Tokunaga her physical combat suffers drastically
- Terribly mistrusting at first and can hold grudges forever
- Despite being a skilled fon master guardian, she is still very young and as such will occasionally throw tantrums and be honestly childish instead of it just being an act
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Sometimes she’ll do impressions of other characters and her imitations can be pretty good! Though not usually very flattering… She also loves sweets and hates being called a kid.
[ Sample ] :
[No crickets. That’s the first thing Anise notices, even before she opens her eyes. The second thing is she's soaking wet, clothes irritatingly sticking to her, jarring her mind from sleep and setting it turning. Can her parents just not pay for the roof to be repaired? Again? Damnit Papa, how is Mama supposed to recover properly if she gets rained on?!
When she moves to get up out of bed and opens her eyes, she notices the third thing. This is not her house in Daath.
Bug-eyed, Anise leaps to her feet and immediately morphs Tokunaga for battle, raising the puppet’s mass enough to climb on its back and look wildly at her surroundings. A big rocky looking plant, unfamiliar architecture... is that a shark?!
With a loud exclamation of surprise and a sudden flail at seeing that great big sea creature swim right on by, the young guardian topples backwards off her plushy perch and lands hard on the cobbles with an immediate squeal of irritation and indignation that echoes ominously across the plaza.]
Where the hell is this?! Where is everyone?!
[The demand echoes back across the plaza, causing a nearby towel vendor to stare at the sudden outburst, too sluggish to turn away before he catches Anise's eye. She has half a mind to go and demand answers for the poor man; have Tokunaga shake him so all the information tumbles out. Kidnap the Fon Master Guardian, will they?!
No, wait, she can't do something so rash. This place is totally unfamiliar even after all the traveling she'd done with her companions to the many corners of the world, so perhaps it would behoove her to charm what she wanted to know out of him instead of being so heavy handed. More flies with honey, after all.
Adopting a cutesy expression, Anise shrinks Tokunaga back down to size and half skips, half hops to the now extremely confused towel vendor, smiling broadly at him in what she knows is her most adorable smile.]
